A California State of Mind: Part Two of the Monterey Rally Experience

The afternoon promised more than mere great views, award-winning food and a delightful happy hour it provided ample time to kick back, explore and commune with fellow attendees. En route to lunch, the group made two quick detours: one for photos at majestic Bixby Creek Bridge, known for its graceful aesthetics and Pacific Coast backdrop, and a second for marathon shopping at “The Phoenix” at Nepenthe. Once arriving at Ventana Big Sur, attendees took in the sunshine on the expansive patio overlooking the Pacific, enjoying wine, cocktails and plenty of fortifying nibbles as they waited for piles of hot and aromatic sandwiches: Cuban Medianoche, smoked brisket and grilled chicken were among the offerings. After a leisurely dessert of berry soup, mascarpone and lime sorbet called Pavlova, the group returned to the fairgrounds to rest up and prepare for the evening’s five-course dinner at Cibo’s.

As soon as dinner seating was complete, white and red wines began to flow freely. Family style appetizer plates were quickly heralded to tables, quickly followed by delicate and perfectly presented abalone and scallop cakes. After a baby arugula salad, attendees began receiving their especially generous main courses that were so delicious many asked for to-go boxes to enjoy these delectable treats later. Of course, no Italian dinner is truly complete without tiramisu and Cibo’s did not disappoint.
